Perhaps the most ridiculous plot of any Barrington novel to date。 But a fun read, nonetheless, and I'll be right there to read the next one when it comes out。 Perhaps the most ridiculous plot of any Barrington novel to date。 But a fun read, nonetheless, and I'll be right there to read the next one when it comes out。 。。。more

Stone Barrington, New York attorney and righter of wrongs, swings into action again when he meets a woman who has been bilked by Viktor Zanian, who has escaped the US after being exposed for running a Ponzi scheme。 If you've read this series (even one of the installments), you know that Stone has an extensive set of contacts in his quiver, including the US President (with whom he had, ahem, a relationship) and his best friend Dino, the NYPD Commissioner。 That means that he can set off on a globa Stone Barrington, New York attorney and righter of wrongs, swings into action again when he meets a woman who has been bilked by Viktor Zanian, who has escaped the US after being exposed for running a Ponzi scheme。 If you've read this series (even one of the installments), you know that Stone has an extensive set of contacts in his quiver, including the US President (with whom he had, ahem, a relationship) and his best friend Dino, the NYPD Commissioner。 That means that he can set off on a global search for Zanian, using private planes, with an FBI Special Agent and others, to places far and wide。 Stone is indiscriminate in spreading his (ahem) affections with just about every woman he meets and he lives very large (he owns a house with a garage in NYC)。 You can quibble with any number of things in these novels (this time I finally realized that he goes to the same three restaurants in each novel but never eats and I found it hard to believe he would give the woman he just met in one of those bars the security code for his house) but they have a certain spirit of derring do。 And they're funny in spots。 Thanks to edelweiss for the ARC。 Best read, I think, by fans of the series who will be happy to see what Stone's up to now。 。。。more

When his best friend, Dino Bachetti, NYC Police Commissioner, is a no-show for dinner, Stone Barrington meets a stunning woman, which, for those of you who have followed this series, winds up in the bedroom。 She tells Stone that she had invested a substantial sum of money with Viktor Zanian。 Stone smells something funny and he advises her to get out of the funds, advice which is of course ignored。 As Stone suspected, it turns out that Zanian is running a Ponzi scheme。 He quickly dumps her, but h When his best friend, Dino Bachetti, NYC Police Commissioner, is a no-show for dinner, Stone Barrington meets a stunning woman, which, for those of you who have followed this series, winds up in the bedroom。 She tells Stone that she had invested a substantial sum of money with Viktor Zanian。 Stone smells something funny and he advises her to get out of the funds, advice which is of course ignored。 As Stone suspected, it turns out that Zanian is running a Ponzi scheme。 He quickly dumps her, but his next female acquaintance has been sucked in by Zanian as well。 Another bedroom conquest, but this time he, with Dino’s assistance, begins a worldwide chase in private airplanes to stop the crook before he can get somewhere where he can’t be touched。 This is the 60th book in Woods’ Stone Barrington series, and it continues to be an entertaining journey。 When you need a quick read, this series hits the spot。 As I have said in reviewing some 30 or so other books in this series, if you are looking for “literature,” look elsewhere。 If you are looking for a likable cast of characters and some entertainment, this is a good place to be。 Thanks to G。P。 Putnam’s Sons and Edelweiss for the opportunity to read and review the ARC of this book。 。。。more
